As the sun sets, we will be treated to a quintessential “safari sundowner”.

Considered the best one-day rafting experience in the world, the Zambezi River flowing down the Batoka Gorge provides one of the most intense sensory thrills imaginable. Its whitewater rapids and striking scenery, deep within the sheer black cliffs of the Batoka Gorge afford the adrenaline junkie a wild roller coaster ride along a route carved over millennia by the middle Zambezi River.

As we drive through the park, we’ll search for elephants, lions, leopards, buffalo, and a variety of birdlife in their natural habitat. For those that are not as comfortable with water and rapids, we offer a river float on Tuesday and Thursday for a pleasant safari from the river.

We will hike down the rugged cliffs of the Batoka Gorge, descending hundreds of feet until we reach the river’s edge. Spectacular scenery, sunshine, warm water and superb rapids all make this one of the greatest white water rafting venues in the world. The Zambezi River is internationally acclaimed as the best one-day white water rafting trip available in the world. We will be guided by a team who are accredited by the International Rafting Federation. As we drift silently past pods of hippos yawning in the shallows and crocodiles basking on sunbaked sandbars, we will experience wildlife directly at the water level. We can watch from feet away as herds of elephants wade into the reeds for a midday drink. The air comes alive with the calls of local birds, making this a birdwatcher’s dream. Keep your binoculars ready for the flash of a Malachite Kingfisher or the rare Pel’s Fishing Owl hiding in the overhanging mahogany trees.

In this wildlife encounter like no other, experience a once-in-a lifetime opportunity for observation and a personal meeting with the rescued Zambezi elephant herd and discover a new-found respect for these gentle giants and their plight. We arrive by scenic jet-boat ride through the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, enjoying views of hippos and wildlife. The Elephant Café concept was a unique solution created to eliminate the era of elephant-back tourism in favor of ethical hand-reared elephant management. The elephants here are hand-reared, the older ones rescued from severe droughts and culling exercises done years ago, while the younger ones came from the wild as orphans or have been born into the herd.

Interact with members of the herd in a positive and secure environment with the onus of the experience to “Observe, Experience, and Conserve” and witness the strong bond between members of the herd and their handlers. This love and respect is generously extended by the elephants to all the humans they meet. The herd receive regular visits from an advisory committee of veterinary specialists, who have assisted in all aspects of the herd dynamics including emotional and physical wellbeing – and the all-important dental check-ups!

Afterward enter The Elephant Café, a wooden deck suspended over the Zambezi River for a unique dining experience for a refreshing tea break while resident elephants graze nearby.

Immerse yourself in the untamed beauty of the African bush on this exclusive, moderate walking safari where we will be introduced to one of Africa’s most endangered legends: the White Rhino. This excursion offers a rare, up-close opportunity to track the White Rhino on foot, guided by expert trackers. Along the way, we will stop to enjoy the signature Zambian hospitality with a break for refreshments.

Get closer than you ever imagined to one of Africa’s Big Five, often spotting mothers with their calves, grazing peacefully just a few meters away. We will experience the thrilling, quiet tension of the wild and gain a deeper connection to nature as we walk in the footsteps of these magnificent giants.

Prepare to learn to interpret animal tracks, dung, and bush indicators to locate the “crash” (group) of white rhinos as we trek through the lush riverine thickets and open plains of Mosi-Oa-Tunya. Once thought to be extinct in the late 19th century, the southern white rhino has made a miraculous recovery thanks to dedicated protection. The rhino is the second largest land mammal and white rhinos are natural lawnmowers because their flat, square lips have perfectly evolved to crop short grasses, creating “grazing lawns” that benefit other wildlife. Our guide will educate us on how the rhino is highly endangered because of poachers. Thought to have highly therapeutic benefits, the tusks of the rhinos are valued on the black market.

Along the way, our guide will select a picturesque spot for a refreshing break to re-energize. The leisurely pace will allow us to stop to observe, ask questions of our guide, and take in this amazing experience.

After a scenic 2-hour drive with a border crossing, we will board a boat to cross the Zambezi River at the point where the 4 countries of Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia meet. We will witness massive elephant herds drinking and bathing, observe lurking crocodiles and pods of hippos, and spot a rich variety of birdlife. Located in Livingstone, Zambia, near the majestic Victoria Falls, this exclusive handicraft workshop invites us to connect with local Zambian artisans and leave with more than just a souvenir: a bespoke, hand-crafted treasure.

Upon entering the Wayawaya workshop, we will be welcomed into a warm fellowship of women. This isn’t just a class; it’s an opportunity to hear the stories of the artisans behind the brand and engage in the ‘slow fashion’ movement. Female empowerment is the backbone of Wayawaya. The focus is investing in the long-term development of artisanal craft skills, culminating in meaningful job creation.

Through expert teaching by professional makers from Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Norway, the female makers are honed with the confidence and technical skills to create products that consistently encompass quality and design. Sales of the handbags and accessories fund further training, workshops and CSR activities Livingstone. “By women, for women”, is the core of Wayawaya in and is a concept inspired by women’s fellowship throughout Zambia. Investing in women is to uplift their entire community, with the ripples of impact being felt through the extended family. The makers welcome us to come to their workshop to hear the story of their journey and check out their craftsmanship.

Victoria Falls Post-Tour

Untamed Botswana – 4 Night Safari Relais & Chateaux Selinda Reserve

Situated in northern Botswana, the Selinda Reserve is a 130,000-hectare (321,000 acres) private wildlife reserve. Sandwiched between the beautiful Savute Channel, the awe-inspiring Chobe National Park, and the sensational Okavango Delta, this sanctuary is well off the beaten track and offers visitors an exclusive wildlife viewing experience. The varied landscape hosts a wide variety of species in diverse habitats, including rare roan and sable antelopes, endangered African wild dogs, lions, cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, and large elephant herds, as well as numerous bird species, including the mighty African Fish Eagle.

This post tour will consist of two separate ultra-luxury Relais & Châteaux camps on the Selinda Reserve for meals and overnights. The guides will coordinate game drives and a group lunch where possible. Note, the camps offer the same service levels and accommodation. Zarafa Camp (accommodations for up to 12 guests) Few camps rival the location of this little gem. Overlooking the crystal waters Zibadianja Lagoon, the source of the famous Savute Channel, every area of camp has a magnificent view. Zarafa Camp is the brainchild of the founders of Great Plains Conservation, who pooled their collective experience on safari to create what they deemed to be the best and most environmentally innovative camp. Zarafa has succeeded in successfully retaining a clearly African feel, while balancing that delicate relationship between personal and informal and romance and adventure.

Selinda Camp (accommodations for up to 10 guests) rests on the banks of the Selinda Spillway, as it enters the Linyanti River. The area has a sense of remoteness, and it is a great example of the Botswana bush embodying a variety of species and rare animals. The camp has three expansive guest suites, each covered under thatch and with large en-suite bathrooms, a large private veranda, and a swimming pool. Safari drives, walks, boating, tracking, birding and other bespoke viewing activities are designed to place you in front of the best wildlife the area has to offer.

Day 1: Saturday, April 10, 2027 Arrival Day

Our safari adventure begins with a comfortable transfer from your hotel in Livingstone to the Kasane airport in Botswana. At the airport, after storing your main luggage, we board a light aircraft charter flight to Selinda Airstrip, the gateway to our Okavango Experience.

The experience begins from the moment we land at Selinda Airstrip. Driving into camp often doubles as our first game drive—elephants are common here, and it is not unusual to spot plains game or even predators before we reach camp.

Once we settle into our tents, there is time to pause before heading out again. The afternoon drive is about getting our bearings. Our guide gauges what is moving through the landscape—perhaps fresh lion tracks, elephant herds near the Spillway, or concentrations of plains game. Sundowners are set in a quiet spot, and we return after dark, often spotting nocturnal species along the way.

Back at the lodge, a feast awaits. Dinner is served under the African sky, with distant sounds of the Delta providing the soundtrack.

Day 2: Sunday, April 11, 2027

The day starts early, with coffee delivered to your room before we head out at first light. This is when the reserve is most active and the guides focus on tracking predators. Selinda is especially strong for lion and wild dog, and much of the morning can be spent following movement from the night before.

We return to camp in late morning for a proper breakfast, then the pace slows. The middle of the day is yours—time at the pool, reading in the library, or simply resting on your deck overlooking the bush.

In the afternoon, after lunch and tea, we head out again. Drives at this hour often focus on elephants along the Spillway or larger herds moving through the area. It is less about covering ground and more about staying with what we find.

Evenings ease back into camp life—firelight, drinks, and conversation with your guide. The night continues with a beautifully prepared, relaxing dinner under the stars.

Day 3: Monday, April 12, 2027

By the third day, there is room to tailor the experience to our interests. We head out on a morning game drive or opt for a guided walk. Walking here is not about big sightings, but about reading tracks, noticing the smaller details, and understanding how everything fits together.

Back in camp, the late morning is your time to relax. If water levels allow, this is a good day to include a boat activity along the Selinda Spillway. It offers a completely different perspective—quieter, slower, with excellent birdlife, hippo, and strong photographic opportunities.

The afternoon drive can be more targeted. By now, our guide usually has a clear sense of where the most interesting activity is—whether that is a particular lion pride, a pack of wild dog, or steady elephant movement. Upon returning to the lodge in the evening, dinner will be served in the warm glow of lantern light. As evening approaches, the clear desert skies also create the perfect conditions for unforgettable stargazing.

Day 4: Tuesday, April 13, 2027

We customize the experiences based on the group. If there have been standout sightings earlier in the stay, the day can be built around them—returning to a pride, tracking wild dog again, or spending more time with elephants. Alternatively, the focus can shift to something quieter, such as birding or photography.

As evening falls, we return to the lodge for a beautifully prepared dinner. We spend a relaxed evening dining under the African sky, with local beverages and the distant sounds of the Delta.

Day 5: Wednesday, April 14, 2027

Our final morning in the Delta begins with an early wake-up call. We enjoy a shortened early morning game drive, offering one last chance to take in the remarkable wildlife and landscapes of the Okavango Delta. As the sun rises over the waterways and islands, we watch for the Delta’s rich birdlife and wildlife before returning to the lodge.

Back at the lodge, check out while the team assists with bag pull and departure preparations. Shortly afterward, we transfer to the nearby airstrip for our scenic light aircraft flight to Kasane.

Upon arrival in Kasane, we collect our stored luggage and connect to our scheduled Airlink flight to O. R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. During the short flight, we enjoy one last aerial view of Botswana’s vast wilderness as we begin our onward journey.

From Johannesburg, continue your international flights home, carrying unforgettable memories of Botswana’s extraordinary wilderness—from its wildlife-rich plains to the tranquil waterways of the Okavango Delta.

Important Travel Notes:

Vaccines and Medications – While the Government of Botswana does not require specific vaccinations for entry from most countries, the team at Radiology International strongly recommends scheduling a consultation with your doctor or a travel health clinic at least 4 to 6 weeks before your departure to ensure you are fully prepared, based on your personal medical history.

Luggage Restriction The small aircraft used for transfers to Botswana’s remote camps have very strict baggage weight allowances (20kg max for your checked bag AND carry-on). Therefore, please pack a separate, soft-sided bag (NO hard shells or wheels) in your luggage for your safari clothes.

You do not need to worry about your extra belongings. Any luggage you have that is not needed for the safari portion of your trip will be securely stored for you at the departure point and returned to you immediately following your stay at the camp. The camp offers complimentary laundry service, so packing only essential amounts is recommended.

Visas – While tourists from many countries are not required to obtain a visa for traveling into Botswana, it is important to check with your local embassy before departure.

Travel Insurance It is strongly encouraged to procure travel insurance to protect your investment in the event of an unplanned occurrence or emergency.
