Day 1: November 1 - Arrival Day
Upon your arrival in Casablanca, Morocco, you will be met at the airport and transferred to Le Casablanca Hotel. Known for its blend of modern amenities and traditional Moroccan charm, the hotel offers elegantly designed rooms, fine dining restaurants and close proximity to the vibrant city center.
Once you have settled into your room, we will set off in the late afternoon to explore the city. We will begin with a visit the Hassan II Mosque, a spiritual experience that combines architectural grandeur with serene coastal beauty. Situated on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, the mosque appears to rise majestically from the water, a fitting homage to its design inspiration from Quranic verses stating God's throne is upon the sea.
The minaret of the Hassan II Mosque, with its intricate zellige tilework, soars 210 meters into the sky and is the tallest in existence.
*Please Note: In order to respect local customs, clothing must cover shoulders and be at knee-length when visiting religious sites.
Inspired by the movie Casablanca, dinner at Rick’s Café this evening will enchant you with its elegant atmosphere, intricate interiors, and captivating live piano music.
Day 2: November 2
After an indulgent breakfast at Le Casablanca Hotel, we will continue on to the city of Fez. On the way, we will visit the Roman ruins of Volublilis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located at the foot of the Jebel Zerhoun, the extensive remains of this outpost of the Roman Empire form a stark contrast to the Arab architecture in nearby Fez and Meknes. Built in 168-169 AD, Volubilis features a basilica, temple, and triumphal arch, as well as well-preserved mosaic floors.
For the next part of our journey, we will visit one of the local leading vineyards in the Meknes region, where you will discover its vineyards, olive groves, cellars and local products. It is a little known fact that Morocco is the second largest wine producer in the Arab world, and is an established exporter of fine wines. We will enjoy a wine tasting and gourmet lunch, featuring a selection of fresh, locally sourced dishes with vibrant flavors, perfectly paired with the winery's signature wines.
After visiting the winery, we will continue on to Fes - the "Mecca of the West" and the spiritual and cultural capital of Morocco. Here, we will check into the Five-Star Raid Fes Hotel. The Raid Fes is and exquisite blend of historic grandeur and modern luxury. An oasis perfectly situated in the vibrant city of Fes, it is situated in a centrally located position close to the vibrant souks and historic landmarks of the city. The hotel features a spa with traditional hammam experiences, an outdoor pool, and a rooftop terrace.
You will have the rest of this afternoon and evening at leisure to enjoy the hotel property and its facilities or explore the city on your own.
Day 3: November 3
After breakfast at the hotel, we will embark on a tour of some of the city's most spectacular monuments. We will begin our tour at the Royal Palace, where its iconic golden gates and surrounding gardens and mosaics reflect Morocco's aesthetic traditions. We will continue on to Medersa, built in the 14th century, one of the most beautiful Islamic schools in Fez. From here, we will visit the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque and University. Recognized by UNESCO, Qarawiyyin represents the golden age of Islamic learning and the pivotal role of women in its founding.
After a hosted lunch in the Medina, we will step back in time with a guided tour through the labyrinthine streets of the Fez Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the world's largest car-free urban areas. This immersive experience unveils the soul of Fez, from its vibrant artisan workshops to its iconic leather tanneries, where ancient techniques are still used to prepare Moroccan leather. Along the way, we will visit shops selling high-quality goods, from bags to babouches (Moroccan slippers).
For dinner this evening, we will embark on the Tasting Trails of Fes, where you will get to experience the culinary wonders of some authentic meals and delicacies of Morocco. We will try a variety of foods from three different souks (markets), including a honey souk. Here you will taste and learn about the importance of honey in Moroccan cooking and Islamic culture. During our dining adventure, we will visit a 400 year old furan, a communal oven and bakery. Additionally, your guide will tell stories and secrets of the male-dominated domain of the tea dens.
Day 4: November 4
Enjoy breakfast, then get ready to explore a range of optional activities that will let you fully experience this extraordinary locale.
Option 1: Nzala Embroidery Workshop
Nzala is an all-women embroidery cooperative aimed at helping those local artisans share their work with the world. Fessi is a treasured tradition of Fez that reflects Morocco's rich cultural heritage that is characterized by its meticulous geometric patterns and arabesque designs, often created on luxurious fabrics like silk or fine linen. The motifs are inspired by Islamic art and architecture, with precision and symmetry being hallmarks of this style. Try your hand at the intricate techniques and motifs that define this exquisite craft, guided by master artisans who have perfected their skills over generations.
Afterward prepare to indulge in a delicious lunch, where you'll savor fresh dishes prepared with locally sourced ingredients.
Option 2: Moroccan Cooking Experience with Lunch
Dive into the vibrant world of Moroccan cuisine. We will begin our culinary experience by venturing into the local souk (market) with the chef to shop for local ingredients, which you will use to create your very own culinary creation. Our chef will teach us how to choose the freshest ingredients and introduce us to items that are authentically Moroccan. We will engage with the friendly vendors and learn about the significance of market culture in Moroccan daily life.
Under the guidance of our chef, we will learn how to make some classic Moroccan dishes. We will be working in a traditional Moroccan kitchen to learn the art of layering spices, using traditional cookware, and perfecting slow-cooking techniques. We will complete our time with enjoying a meal at the end to taste what we have cooked and appreciate the deeper Moroccan culture.
As the day winds down, we’ll gather for dinner at Gayza Restaurant in the Riad Fez Hotel. Inspired by the grand tradition of the Disciples of Escoffier and French flavors, this menu reimagines Moroccan classics with a touch of elegance. Set in a stunning space featuring elegant décor and intricate zellige tilework, the ambiance is warm and inviting, with a majestic fireplace as a centerpiece.
Day 5: November 5
Today, we embark on a scenic drive as we head to the Sahara Desert and witness the remarkable change in scenery, transitioning from the lush greenery of the mountains to the golden hues of the desert. On the way, we will stop at Ifrane, known as the "Switzerland of Morocco" due to its alpine-like architecture, cool climate, and snow-covered winters. The picturesque town offers a striking contrast to the arid landscapes of Morocco.
Next we will stop in Erfoud, a charming desert town known for its proximity to the vast dunes of the Sahara and is often referred to as the "Gateway to the Desert". Here, we will enjoy a traditional Moroccan lunch in this town teeming with lush palm groves, as well as witnessing the surreal desert scenery where movies such as The Mummy have been featured.
Upon arrival at the Erg Chebbi camp, we will be greeted by our hosts, as well as local camels that we will get to ride. The camels will take us on a path through the tall sand dunes. Dinner this evening will be enjoyed under the canopy of stars. We will be served authentic Moroccan dishes prepared with locally sourced ingredients. Afterward, enjoy local tribal music around the bonfire. We will experience the excitement of spending the night in Saharan tents in a nomadic camp in the desert, and enjoying the sky in the most incredible night you’ll ever see.
Day 6: November 6
Today, we will drive to the village of Khamila, a small village on the edge of the desert, where the Gnawa ethnic group lives. Originally from Central Africa, the Gnawa descended from the African slaves brought to Morocco. We will experience the Saharan music and dancing of the Gnawa, accompanied by instruments including drums, guembris, and qaraqebs. During our visit, the musicians will perform ceremonial songs and dances, offering a glimpse into the spiritual rituals tied to their heritage. After this special interactive Gnawa performance, we will head to a local Berber restaurant. Here we will get to enjoy the delicious Berber "pizza" medfouna (traditional stuffed flatbread) for lunch. Medfouna is stuffed with a mixture of spiced minced meat, onion, and herbs.
After returning to camp, we will have the opportunity to partake in various activities, including ATV rides, dune buggy rides, and camel rides. Merzouga is an optimal destination for quad and buggy driving in the desert. You will be guided by experienced desert professionals who can lead you through the most thrilling paths and provide insights into the unique landscape. This is an exhilarating experience where you navigate your vehicle across towering, golden sand dunes, feeling the rush of adrenaline as you climb steep inclines, slide down soft slopes, and race through the vast, seemingly endless expanse of the desert. As you ride, take in the breathtaking scenery, including some local desert wildlife. Some animals you may spot are fennec foxes or gazelles.
Settle in with an evening to remember with a moonlight dinner, campfire, and stargazing accompanied by local tribal music. This unforgettable evening combines the raw beauty of the Sahara with Moroccan culture and hospitality. Enjoy a hearty feast of Moroccan delicacies around low tables and cushions arranged around the flickering campfire. After dinner, gather to experience the hypnotic rhythms of the traditional Berber music.
Day 7: November 7
This morning, you will have the opportunity to try your hand at sandboarding as the sun rises over the desert. Similar to snowboarding, sandboarding an exhilarating activity that involves gliding down sand dunes on a specially designed board and is done on the warm, yellow sand of the Sahara.
After a hearty breakfast at the camp, we will depart for Ouarzazate, known as the "Door of the Desert". Famous for its striking landscapes, ancient kasbahs (fortresses), and vibrant film industry, Ouarzazate serves as a cultural and geographical bridge between the High Atlas Mountains and the vast Sahara Desert.
Along our drive, we will stop at Todra Valley and Dades Gorges, some of Morocco's dramatic canyons that show the country's stunning desert and mountain landscapes. Todra Valley is a lush, green oasis framed by the rugged peaks of the High Atlas Mountains. It is a haven for photographers and nature lovers who seek to capture the vibrant contrast between the greenery and the red rocks.
Dades Gorges are a winding series of deep canyons carved by the Dades River and are known for their dramatic switchback roads and other uniquely shaped red cliffs. Along the way, we will see Berber villages, kasbahs and ksars (earthen villages), as well as the unique flora and fauna of the area.
We will stop for lunch near the gorges, where we will enjoy the warm hospitality of the locals as we dine on specialty fusion dishes.
Upon arrival in Ouarzazate, we will check into the Five-Star Berbere Palace, known for its elegant design inspired by Berber culture. The property boasts lush gardens, a stunning outdoor pool, and a full-service spa with traditional Hammam treatments. Its central location in Ouarzazate makes it a convenient base for exploring nearby attractions.
This evening we will dine at the Berbere Palace Hotel. A culinary haven that reflects the rich flavors and cultural heritage of Morocco, the menu showcases the best of Moroccan gastronomy utilizing fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
Day 8: November 8
After a final breakfast at the luxurious Berbere Palace Hotel, we’ll make our journey to our final destination - Marrakech.
Our drive will take us through Tizi n' Tichka Pass with a stop at Ait Benhaddou. Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains where parts of The Mummy, Gladiator, and Game of Thrones were filmed. Constructed from mudbrick, the ksar (fortified village) of Ait Benhaddou was once a thriving trading post for gold, salt, and other goods. Today, it serves as a living museum, with some families still residing within its walls.
Our drive will take us through the Tizi n' Tichka Pass, the highest paved mountain road in North Africa located in the High Atlas Mountains. Historically a trade route connecting sub-Saharan Africa and Morocco's northern cities, the road winds through dramatic landscapes, including mountain slopes, terraced farmlands, and picturesque Berber villages nestled among the hills.
We will stop for lunch at a mountainside café, where we will be immersed in the region's natural beauty and warm hospitality. Enjoy freshly prepared local dishes while enjoying the stunning panoramic views of the area.
We will arrive at the Fairmont Royal Palm Hotel in Marrakech, where you may check in for your stay for the duration of the conference. The Fairmont Royal Palm is a luxurious oasis located about 20 minutes outside the bustling center of Marrakech. Surrounded by centuries-old olive groves, the hotel blends modern elegance with Moorish architectural touches, creating a serene and sophisticated atmosphere.
